Windows XP Pro booting directly to Administrator Logon and password error

I have a brand HP tower with XP Pro loaded. The issue is that when the
computer boots up it goes directly to the Administrator logon and gives
me an incorrect password error without me touching it. I have the
Welcome Screen and Fast Switching turned off as I prefer the old NT
logon style. The Administrator has a password and I even changed it.
This is a new issue for me and I'm not really comfortable with trial
and error in this area. If anyone can offer a suggestion or better yet
a fix I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks!

Hopefully you can logon as some administrator account. Assuming you can type
control userpasswords2 in the run box and make sure that the option that
users must enter name/password is checked.
