windows xp pro applications

My win xp pro applications cannot start when I click on their icons in the
start menu in win windows explorer. I need to Start...Run...Browse and then
select the application and then it can run. Does anybody know how to fix
this problem...? Also, all application icons are now displayed wrong.

www.dougknox.com, click on WinXP Fixes, File Association Fixes, then
download the .lnk (shortcut) fix and run it.
