Windows XP Pro and AOL 9.0

I am running AOL Broadband 9.0 on Windows XP Pro...

Lately, AOL has been freezing up when I try to use certain features
(video streaming, AOL radio, IM, etc). I have uninstalled and
reinstalled the program and gone through the motions with AOL, but the
AOL people think this might be a Windows problem. When I hit
ctl-alt-delete to exit out of AOL, it lists two AOL programs
running... one is linked to the process for aol.exe but the other one
is linked to explorer.exe, which doesn't make much sense to me.
Anyway, the AOL crash then also makes Internet Explorer hang up as
well... even after I have already closed out of AOL.

Whenever I have this problem, I also can't shut down or restart the
program correctly... it just won't allow it to shut down through the
"Start" menu, so I end up having to just turn it off manually and
reboot...

Anyway, I'm just wondering if anyone has any idea what could be
causing this conflict. The AOL people are stumped. And I thought I'd
check with the gurus on this board before trying Microsoft tech
support.

Your problem will be solved when you rid of AOL altogether, and get a good
ISP. You will probably have to reinstall Windows to get rid of what I
consider AOL to be a large version of trojan ware. The reason AOL techs are
stumped, is that they don't have "real" techs, just monkey like figures that
read scripts that apply to reinventing the wheel, that keeps winding up like
Ford Explorers with Firestone tires.

want to see the spyware in aol? then run spybot
safer-networking.org or ad-aware lavasoftusa.com
update both before scan.
but you could also have a spyware/trojan bugger tagging
along in your system and checking out your files.

The only way to solve your problem is to get rid of the POS AOL and get a
real ISP. AOL makes proprietary changes to so many of the Windows operating
system files that it should be considered a virus. I can easily equate 70%
of the problems I see on my customers' computers to the fact that they have
AOL installed. I get their system running right, but as soon as they put
AOL back on the problems return. I would not even let an AOL disk anywhere
near any of my computers.

False. It's an AOL problem. Uninstall it and use an ISP that does not
mess with your system files.
