windows xp not accepting the port or driver for printer

when i got my dell 2400 computer it accepted my printer.
but when i moved my pc it took the printer but now i
get found new hardware. and i get the hardware wizard
every time i turn on the computer. the printer is in the
pc the files are in but the hardware wizard still come on
everytime the pc comes onand igo thru all the different
steps to install and unstall and install the printer
driver.
the printer is still on and works find.
but the hardware wizard says could not install because ,
could not find the drive or the port it is hooked on that
is the parrell port for the printer and the usb port for
the
printer.
i emailed hp for my printer which
is a hpdeskjet 920c. and the first email said to go to
search and find the files hpz and hpf ithink and to
delete them and uninstall the printer . i did that and
the wizard still came up after reinstalling it with cd
from the printer. then the second email said to go to run
and do regedit and to make sure everything in the
registiry was checked and to export it first then to
check if everything was checked and unistall the driver
and reinstall it , i did that and the wizard still came
up.then i tried to import the registery and it didnot
import.ive also tried to uninstall ande install it from
the cd from the
printer.
then i contacted hp. and told
them everything. they told me to contact dell and windows
xp. i called dell support and got tech support and got
nowhere with software and hardware dept. they had me do
everything i allready did and was no help. so now i am at
the point of help. or i return the pc and i do not want
to returnit yet. please help me .

First step is to do a total uninstall and then reinstall of the printer,
following the instructions at:

http://www.coribright.com/windows/Article One.htm

Next step depends on whether you are connecting through USB or LPT.

If through USB, download a new set of drivers from the HP website and
install the software BEFORE connecting the printer... the software will tell
you when to connect.

If through LPT, ensure the LPT port is set to EPP in the BIOS. Then use the
software as above.
