Windows XP: Multiple Processors

Does Windows XP Professional support, or is it capable of
supporting, multiple processors?

While I didn't order a multi-processor system, the Device
Manager reports 2 - 3.0GHz processors. I'll confirm with
visiable inspection later, but would like to know if
Windows XP Pro supports the two processors.

Thanks for your help.

I'm having the same problem. I just replaced win 98 with
win xp pro and all of a sudden I am having sound glitches
(tried audigy and audigy 2) choke/lag in games such as
half life:counter-strike and slow load times. I am
pretty sure it is because win xp pro thinks tehre are two
processors when there is only one. Help would be greatly
appreciated.

XP Home supports a single CPU. However, a P4 that supports hyperthreading
(like the 3.00 or 3.06 GHz CPUs) will appear as two CPUs in device Manager.
(This requires that the version of XP that supports hyperthreaded CPUs be
installed).

XP Pro supports two real CPUs. I believe that two P4 3.0 GHz CPUs would
appear as four processors in Device Manager.

I've read of problems with Audigy cards and HT processors. However, I'm
running the latest drivers (available as an update from www.creative.com)
with my vanilla Audigy 2 with a P4 2.6c (supports HT) on an Asus P4P800
(Intel 965PE chipset) board. It works fine for me, although I haven't run
anything with the venerable Half Life engine on it.

Good luck.
