Windows XP Installation

I would like to upgrade a windows 98 coputer to windows xp
to give to a family member. I no longer use this computer
and do not care if I lose information stored on it. How
do I go about clearing off the hard drive to install
Windows xp clean?

first...what are the hardware specifications on this machine....memory,
processor speed, etc....
