Windows XP/IE6 History Does Not Display

I'm not sure whether this is a Windows XP or an IE6
problem. Both are relatively new to the machine.

In Windows XP, Internet Explorer 6.0, the History of sites
visited does not display. There is no history even though
in Tools/Internet Options it is to be kept for 5 days.
Occassionally, the history does display but disappears
before your eyes.

Has anyone had similar experiences or have recommendations
for solving the problem?

I've seen this problem with McAfee VirusScan. I forget how it's worded
exactly on their scanner settings, but I know you need to disable the
internet scanning, Active X maybe?
