Windows xp home edition repair install problem!

Tim

Hi, I am trying to repair a friend's win xp home edition computer.
Currently it is rebooting itself just after the xp logo screen
appears. It hangs when trying to boot in safe mode, beofre getting
into it.
I therefore decided to repair install, however install hasn't detected
any previous version of windows xp, so the repair option isn't
available!

Please help me out!
I have already tried to do bootcfg /rebuild and rebuilt it but it
still doesn't detect it.

Thanks

Tim

Have you checked the CPU's temperature in BIOS?

Please Read all options before choosing one...
In other words this is a Test.
Choose the BEST answer not necessarily the right answer LOL

Option 1:

I've had this work once and it was magic...
(I assume you are running XP Home with NTFS)
Take out the hard drive and place it into another system XP Home XP Pro
Win2000 etc.
(Anything that runs NTFS)

The system you put it in will try to Mount the Drive and make Corrections to
it's file system.
(It worked for me.) But just in case. While it's on the other system copy
over the files you want to save just in case this process doesn't work.

It did when I repaired a one and and saved a whole hard drive.

Option 2:

If that doesn't work...

and Since you can't get into Safe mode there is really not much choice that
I know of?
(Corrections please on this.)

You will have to do a Reinstall.)
If it's NOT an OEM XP Home edition (Just do a Reinstall.)
Even though all the programs will be #$#% up
You will of course have to reinstall the Software.
at least he will have his files.

Such as music etc etc....

If it IS an OEM CD the PC will want a CLEAN Hard Drive with NO previous OS

The steps below will have to be done.

Option 3

WARNING DOING THE BELOW MEANS HE WILL LOOSE ALL CONTENTS OF THE HARD DRIVE
AND THERE WILL BE NOTHING LEFT ON IT!

If you forgot to save the Files above or didn't read it...
Take the Hard drive out, put it in another System and Pull all the files he
wants off of it...
Wipe the hard drive. (The corrupt one not the one you put it on.)

OK put the hard drive (*Erased BACK into the PC)
Boot up and see if you can install XP OEM.

If it says there is a OS on it and unable to install.
Use FDISK and Erase the partitions.
(A bootdisk with FDISK can be found on bootdisk.com.)

If it doesn't erase fully search the net for a program called delpart.exe or
delpat.exe
Make a boot disk (bootdisk.com) copy the del pat to that floppy...

use the Delpat program to wipe the hard drive.
WARNING This is a VERY Dangerous program it will Delete ALL Partitions
Win/Linux/MAC

Then install WinOEM XP and good luck...
