Windows XP Guest Password

I

Ian Green

I have two PCs running Windows XP Pro connected by a
TCP/IP network. On one machine FrontPage 2002 is
installed.

On the other Internet Information Services (IIS) is
installed. The directory Inetpub has been set to "Share
this folder on the network" and "Allow users to change my
files." Using IIS, in the "Default Web Site"
properties "Home Directory" tab has been set to allow
script source access, read, write and directory
browsing. The "Directory Security" tab has been set to
allow "Anonymous access" and "Allow IIS to control
password". All "Authenticated access" options are
cleared. FrontPage 2002 Extensions have been installed.

When I try to access the second machine from the first
using FrontPage, I am challanged for the guest account
password. There seems to be no way to set the password
for the guest account and nothing I've found says what it
is. Trying some obvious guesses hasn't worked.

How do I get the guest account password or configure IIS
so I am not challanged for a password ? Thanks in
advance.

You can not share inetpub folder, since it is a web server. You should
always access it via http://MachineIPAddress or http://MachineName
especially if you want to use the features of the FP extensions.

Sound like you need to create a host file.

Do a search on your system for host.sam, then open in notepad, edit and then
save in the same location as:

host

note: when saving it can't have any file extension

Jim,

Thanks for the correction, I was going off the top head and not actual
looking at my hosts file.
