Windows XP gone after Vista installation

I got an HP m7490n desktop and installed the Vista Beta 2 on it. So so
far Vista is running fine, except when I try to boot Win XP, it gave me
a blank screen and 10 minutes later and it was still a blank screen.

The Win XP is selected when I boot the machine and chose "Earlier
version Windows" in the dual boot screen installed by Vista Beta 2.

Hi,

Did you install Vista to the same volume that XP was installed to? If so,
you may have corrupted the XP installation and will need to do a repair
installation.

Installing beta software on a production machine is not
a good idea. Use a different machine or at the very
least a different hard disk - they cost very little!

ah, i see... do i need to install on different partition or different
hard drive?

if I install Vista as "clean new install" will it wipe out the HP
Recovery partition of the XP reinstallation files?

hm... the need to use a different partition must be in the docs some
where... just hope that there can be a warning that pops out when
installing -- for the men who don't read manual.

When testing a beta system then I would install it on
a separate hard disk. If so then the question about
recovery partition is irrelevant.

Why would you want to waste your time installing a BETA version of Fista
when it is obvious that you lack the computer skills to properly handle
your computer? You're just looking for trouble and what are you gaining?

Only closed minds argue in this way.

Out of the arse (XP) into the crapper itself (Vista). You are not
improving your situation, ya know.

No Pegasus he is right, there are people all over asking how to burn a
DVD from an ISO so they can upgrade to Vista, makes me cringe. A lot
of posts going on about how great Vista is followed shortly after by
how do I get back to XP. Its being perceived by less experienced users
wrongly as a "free Upgrade".

In this case the level of knowlege displayed by the OP (no disrespect
intended to the OP) points to an inexperienced user with very little
idea of the implications and use of Beta software, also nowhere near
enough knowlege to install it safely. This is very common at present.

Well durrrr!
See what I mean.

I feel it is somewhat irresponsible to humour people in this position
without a very stark warning of the consequenses of upgrading XP with
Vista Beta - MSFT have not done so strongly enough.

DO NOT INSTALL VISTA BETA UNLESS YOU KNOW EXACTLY WHAT YOU ARE DOING

Would IMHO be a bit more appropriate but I have given up posting re
this subject on the microsoft.public.windows.vista.general its a waste
of time, nobody with their mitts on a Vista DVD can wait to bang it in
over thier existing XP installation.
