My Gateway PC about 3 yrs old continuously has the fan running whenever I
wake it up. The minute i move the mouse and get the pc up and running the fan
runs and will not shut down unless i put it to sleep or reboot.
Anyone out there have any ideas what may be wrong and how to fix it, without
dragging it to a service dept.????
Thanks ahead of time

Best thermal performance results from a clean heatsink on the CPU.
Check for dust bunnies. Any dust acts as an insulator. And
use common sense when cleaning - a high velocity air stream
with dust in it, can generate static electricity. (The dust helps
generate the static.) The discharge from static electricity can
damage electronic components. So if you have a can of "dust-off",
I'd try a more gentle cleaning technique than that.

If the fan still demonstrates that it can run at both a low and
a high speed, then mechanically and electrically, it is probably
still working correctly. That leave overheating, due to clogged
air flow, as a potential source of the problem.
