Windows XP for Gaming.

Hi there.

First off, I am wondering if there is a utility that will allow me to setup
my windows xp (with sp2) so I could get the best quality as possible for
gaming?

I have an intel 2.6 mhz, with only 256 megs of ram. I know more memory
would help, but that at the moment is difficult to do since I have little
money spare, and I don't need to hear it all again about get this or get
that, I've heard it all before. What I'm looking for is a possible solution
to get the best of what I have at the moment. I have looked at several
soulutions through tweaking FAQ's, and I have shutdown several services that
take up much needed memory, but for some reason Windows XP still doesn't seem
to improve my gaming experience.

Also, my system is a dual boot, which is I have Windows 98se installed so I
can take advantage of freeing up more memory so I can play these games, but
as most know, Windows se locks up every once in awhile which is a big pain in
the behind.

I am so curious as to why Microsoft hasn't created a gaming util for those
people like myself that would scan your system, and automatically re-adjust
the settings so you can get the most out of XP for gaming.

I have just finished reading several documents on why XP is better for
gaming, but from what I have read, and from my experience, you require a
gaming system that is just outrageous.

To add, I have all the latest drivers for my hardware (Video, Sound, etc)

Anyway, if anyone has solutions please reply...

Thanks.

I don't know of any utility that does that automatically, but you might find
some good information at http://www.blackviper.com/WinXP/servicecfg.htm about
disabling unneeded windows services, which will free up some memory and CPU
power for your games.

Gaming?

What ever the secular markets has trump that to be to sell gismos and
gadgets?
it usually requires the extreme capicities of all computer components
working together.
XP is only the presentation part.

Intel Pent 4 - Intel knew several years ago it would be of little value to
make a 6 GHtz CPU on a 200 MB bus with slow memory. That's why they designed
the DDR dual channel memory bus, the AGP 8X which is already old by gaming
standards. The PCI Express16 is the new Gaming video bus and I believe there
is a video card that will hit 12X. The Pent 4 3.4 Extreme with L3 cach (an
inside joke amoung Intel resellers as it is only 15% faster and costs
hundreds more. They love to sell the high profit toys to gamers.) It is the
consumers twisted thinging that makes one believe that a computer will
operate and perform without the proper parts.

Serius Gamers know what that need and what and would not even think of
running less than the best they can get, which is usually less than they
desire which is what drivers the market.

But for a whata be Gamer, start with a dual chan DDR400 with 2GB, a Dual
Xeon 3.2, 800 FSB, a 10k SATA disk drive with a Game drive added. The newest
NVadia 68000000 with 512 MB, a 19 in monitor, and a mess of Game
controllers, The Gamers might let you play on their servers with that.

But don't expect this machine to last more than 2 yeras and it doesn't need
too, as it will be obsolete for gaming in 18 months.

The war on isums? Define your isum. Define the isues. Define the markets.
Are you a brainwashed idiot kid or a self determined thinking person. Don't
be so damn ignorant and swaded by the hype of the media machines. They just
want your money and they couldn't care less about your "xperience".
