Here's the thing. All the letters in windows are being
displayed as strange symbols. If i go to the fonts folder,
select all, install, then go to display options and apply
fonts size normal everything looks normal. If i reboot
everything is all messed up. I think that i may have
inadvertantly deleted a registry key.(using macafee
cleaner). Can anyone help me restore my system back to
normal without reinstalling my OS. Thanks.

Same thing happened to me.HP assistance didn't help much. I still
ended up doing a destructive recovery. I think I must have clicked on
the wrong thing. When I booted up the next day, everything in my
computer was showing up as code. McAfee didn't find any viruses. My
fault for getting sloppy with my surfing.

Same thing just happened to me after running System Mechanic 3.8 that was supposed to "CLEAN UP" my registry. I tried to restore to an earlier date but couldn't. The message was no changes to files, unable to restore, pick an earlier date. I tried three ealier dates to no avail
..
I then tried installing new fonts and that seemed to work until reboot, then chaos again with wingdings, etc. I tried again to reinstall fonts and found that only about 6 or so fonts remained out of 250 in my folder. Don't know where they went.
I then look for my XP disc to do a "sfc /sacnnow" but could even find that! I will tear my house apart tomorrow to locate it as I feel this may be my only chance to see if any system file have been corrupted.

If anyone has a real solution to this problem, please help. I have read every post I can find and am still in trouble!
Thanks!

Same deal here. I used Steven Gould's 'CleanUp' just to see how it worked.
It flushed a bunch of supposedly unused fonts. First time I rebooted, got
windings. Reset to earlier points, works jake. First reboot, back to the
wingdings...

I'm just smart enough to cause myself trouble, but I can follow specific
instructions. HELP!

HP media center with XP Media, all updates per wupdate current.

:

Use system restore to restore to a date just before intalling clean up.
