windows xp failed to re-install

I have been running xp for months. My dvd and cdr-w drives
d: and e: disappeared. Tried to uninstall AND REINSTALL
BUT THEY WOULD NOT REINSTALL. WENT TO SAFE MODE AND TRIED
TO REINSTALL XP. WENT OK THRU COMPLETING INSTALLATION-
REGISTRING COPMONENTS(ABOUT 1/3 THE WAy). got message
unregmp2.exe The proceedure entry point getIUMS COULD NOT
BE LOCATED IN THE DYNAMIC LINK LIBRARY MSDART.DLL
tHE INSTALL STOPPED AT THIS POINT WITH NO WAY TO CONTINUE.
dID MY DISK GO BAD? wHAT NEXT?

You may have a virus, use FPROT antivirus checker first
from DOS !

no virus found. Iam using laptop can not run desktop that
is still bad.
