Windows Won't Start

Help! All of a sudden, I cannot start Windows XP on my laptop. I get the
following message:

WINDOWS COULD NOT START BECAUSE THE FOLLOWING FILE IS MISSING OR CORRUPT:
\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM

YOU CAN ATTEMPT TO REPAIR THIS FILE BY STARTING WINDOWS SETUP USING THE
ORIGINAL SETUP CD-ROM. SELECT "R" AT THE FIRST SCREEN TO START REPAIR.

I put the orginal installation/repair disk in and the system won't read it.
I can't even get a DOS prompt. I tried going to SAFE mode and nothing
happened.

PLEASE ADVISE AND THANK YOU IN ADVANCE!

That's one of the worst one's you could get (no sugar coating)
Do you happen to have a back up of your registry files?

Read this and good luck

When all said and done you might think of running ERUNT next time,

Hi Joe --

THANKS for that tip about changing the BIOS for booting! It looks like I'll
be able to get it up and running now. Ginoman
