Window's Vista/Video Cards

I currently have the Window's Vista Home Basic, because I don't have a strong
enough video card (I think that is what it is, I'm pretty sure it's that),
and I want to upgrade to Window's Home Premium or maybe even Ultimate and I
was wondering about how much it would cost to get a strong enough video card
to support the other types of Window Vista.

So then, what exactly is Aero? Is that the kinda transparent window I
see with all this fuzzy crap in the background?

If thats Aero, then I don't need or want it!

So how much do you think it would cost for one that supports both Aero and
Ultimate $30? and which one would you reccomend I buy?

Windows Aero compatible graphics cards start at around $30. By the way, you
can run Home Premium and Ultimate editions without an Aero compatible
graphics card. You just won't get Aero.

Even if it doesn't support Aero, it will support Ultimate. There isn't
anything special outside of Aero that a card needs to be compatible, outside
of drivers.

Look for cards with for Aero support:
Direct X9 or 10 support
Pixel shader 2.0
128+ mb of dedicated graphics memory
wddm driver support

Just look on the box for "Windows Vista Compatible" and those things I
listed above. You might not see "wddm" on the box, but the other 3 (direct
x, pixel shader 2, 128mb mem) you should definately see.

So one of the ones that has all of what you said would cost about $30 or
more? and I also wanted to know if it is easy to install? Thanks for all of
your help Robert you're great.

Currently Radeons have better driver support (oh how this has changed from
the days that nVidia was the king of drivers). There is no guarantee that
this will remain the case in the future.

so do you think ATI Radeon 9550, 8x AGP 256MB Video Card with TV-Out is
compatible with Window's Vista Ultimate and can it support all the features
it has like Aero or no?

It should work reasonably well and support Aero.

I use that card at home with Vista Ultimate and it works fine. Have not had
any problems with it.
