Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor

Hello, I've been considering upgrading from XP Pro 32bit to Vista Ultimate
x64 or Home Premium x64. I am concerned about whether my hardware will have
issues with the upgrade. I've tried to run the upgrade advisor, but every
time I run it there is an error while scanning. I downloaded the latest
version off the website today (Jan 5/08) so the suggestion to install the
latest version isn't very helpful.

Is there some underlying cause I can correct or another version I can try,
or do I risk blindly upgrading to vista?

If you run something like the BelArc Advisor
http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html it will list your hardware and
software. You can check on the manufacturers' sites that there are 64-bit
drivers for all your hardware and that your software is, or can be updated
to, a 64-bit Vista compatible version.

You may find, but I know of nothing which would report it, that some BIOS
and/or firmware updates are needed to make your system Vista compatible.

You will need to do a full install of Vista as there is no direct upgrade
from 32-bit to 64-bit versions of Windows.
