Windows Vista is crashing my programs

I bought a new HP laptop last August and it had Vista on it. Ever since then
I have had a zillion crashes. I have Office 2002 (and can't upgrade at this
time), and have been trying to run Outlook 24/7 because of the deleted
password problem, but it crashes about 3-4 times most days.

Also, when I was running IE, it was also crashing very often a day. I
switched to Mozilla, so that's no longer an issue!

Is this crashing just because I had Outlook 2002? That wouldn't explain the
crashing of IE though.

They should have left well enough alone with XP as that OS worked perfectly
for me!

You could have chosen a Laptop supplied with XPpro
When a sys crashes usually you get a BSOD that gives some details, or you
check Event Viewer for corresponding errs
As it is you posted nothing which will enable any one to help.

Have you maybe been using MS Update to install drivers?
Have you been fiddling with the registry, used any registry cleaners?
Does your sys function ok if you boot into safe mode?

Hi,

If you bought a car 6 months ago and it kept stalling a zillion times,
wouldn't you contact the manufacturer and have warranty work done? The same
applies to your laptop.

Telling use that it crashes without providing any details is not likely to
get you any useful answers. While a fair majority of crashes are driver
errors, there are many, many other possible causes. Anyone trying to answer
would just be guessing.

Your problem could be faulty hardware. Or a corrupt installation. Or a bad
driver. Or incompatible software (either with the operating system or with
other installed software). Or Malware. The list goes on.

If you want a specific, useful answer, ask a specific question that includes
details.

What are the crash details according to View Problem History in the "Problem
Reports and Solutions" control panel? Have you used Check for Solutions
there?

I missed the original post but as Zachd said error messages are very
helpful, however because you say the laptop is quite new and because you
think this is a "Vista" problem I am guessing that it's pretty much been
this way since you took it out of the box.

What can cause random crashes is faulty memory, faulty hardware or bad
video card drivers (Because faulty drivers can make it look to the error
reporting system as if something has physically failed).

Have you checked HP's website to see if they have new drivers for your
model? Any drivers not just video. Have you visited Windows update
regularly, and if so instead of using the "Express" mode have you tried
"Custom Install" to see if any hardware related stuff pops up there?

When you boot the machine do you get an option to run a RAM test? I
really don't know if you should or not because I don;t have that
machine, but if not then post back and someone can help you find a good
test program. The thing that runs at boot time which you may see on the
screen during boot up does not really "Test", RAM, it only takes a quick
look.

If all else fails contact HP as their support Technicians may have seen
this before and be able to help quickly. I suspect that because this
affects several programs it is related to a virus or some other fault
common to all.
