Windows Updates

M

Martin Racette

Hi,

For the past week or so, Windows Updates list some updates, but when I click
INSTALL, it then state PREPARING TO INSTALL, and after a few minutes it just
gives me an error that SOME UPDATE WERE NOT INSTALLED, and it is all the
updates that are not installed

When it is for Defender I can always go downloaded them manually, but the
others I can not because I do not know how to find them, so I would like to
know how to fix this

the error is WindowsUpdate_80246008

Hi there,

You must be logged on as an administrator to perform these steps. If you
receive Windows Update error 80246008 while downloading updates, you might
need to change the Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS) or Windows
Event Log service settings, and then restart each service. Here I got a link
for you about that error code. There is a link on that page for you to
contact windows update support team by email.

http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Windows/en-US/help/5f3f02f4-69bc-47a5-9e40-8c9b86ffb2fd1033.mspx

If the issue persists and the BITS does not work normally, you may try the
BITS repair tool which is available by the links on the following page.

http://www.microsoft.com/communitie...deff&mid=307d21a2-eb9a-4859-b139-78997305deff

Good luck.

I found out that the BITS is not working at all, when I try to start it, the
status bar does not even get to 20% and the whole start stop. I have tried
what you suggested below the repair tool for the BITS, but I get a message
telling me that the BITS does not nedd any repair at this time

Did you try all the other possibilities that I posted aside from the bits fix ?

M

Martin Racette

Yes I did, but when I attemp to @regsvr32 %windir%\system32\qmgrprxy.dll@ I
get an error message:

@The module "C:\windows\system32\qmgr.dll" was loaded but the entry-point

Can you check if you have the following files and in the following locations. Use

The above notwithstanding, there is also a very good chance that you are
seeing the effects of a hijackware infection!

NB: If you had no anti-virus application installed or the subscription had
expired *when the machine first got infected* and/or your subscription has
since expired and/or the machine's not been kept fully-patched at Windows
Update, don't waste your time with any of the below: Format & reinstall
Windows. A Repair Install will NOT help!

1. See if you can download/run the MSRT manually:
http://www.microsoft.com/security/malwareremove/default.mspx

NB: Run the FULL scan, not the QUICK scan! You may need to download the
MSRT on a non-infected machine, then transfer MRT.EXE to the infected
machine and rename it to SCAN.EXE before running it.

2. [WinXP ONLY!! =>] Run the Windows Live Safety Center's 'Protection' scan
(only!) in Safe Mode with Networking, if need be:
http://onecare.live.com/site/en-us/center/howsafe.htm

3. Run a /thorough/ check for hijackware, including posting the requested
logs in an appropriate forum, not here.

I do have the c:\windows\system32\qmgr.dll
But I do not have the c:\windows\system32\bits directory

BTW I am using Vista 64 Ultimate, just in case that does matter

I had already done all of those step, but the problem persist, and the

The above notwithstanding, there is also a very good chance that you
are
seeing the effects of a hijackware infection!

NB: If you had no anti-virus application installed or the subscription
had
expired *when the machine first got infected* and/or your subscription
has
since expired and/or the machine's not been kept fully-patched at
Windows
Update, don't waste your time with any of the below: Format &
reinstall
Windows. A Repair Install will NOT help!

1. See if you can download/run the MSRT manually:
http://www.microsoft.com/security/malwareremove/default.mspx

NB: Run the FULL scan, not the QUICK scan! You may need to download
the
MSRT on a non-infected machine, then transfer MRT.EXE to the infected
machine and rename it to SCAN.EXE before running it.

2. [WinXP ONLY!! =>] Run the Windows Live Safety Center's 'Protection'
scan (only!) in Safe Mode with Networking, if need be:
http://onecare.live.com/site/en-us/center/howsafe.htm

3. Run a /thorough/ check for hijackware, including posting the
requested
logs in an appropriate forum, not here.

this isn't your cup of tea - take the machine to a local, reputable

For the past week or so, Windows Updates list some updates, but when
I
click INSTALL, it then state PREPARING TO INSTALL, and after a few
minutes
it just gives me an error that SOME UPDATE WERE NOT INSTALLED, and
it
is
all the updates that are not installed

When it is for Defender I can always go downloaded them manually,
but
the
others I can not because I do not know how to find them, so I would
like
to know how to fix this

the error is WindowsUpdate_80246008

Yes I did ran the Microsoft Malware removal tool, and my Antivirus is
updated daily, and I even did a full scan with Spybot and Defender and
nothing shows up, they all tell me that everything is running normally.

The only thing that I could see that is not running is the BITS, which
trys
to start and get to about 20% of the status bar when I try to start it
and
it then stop

Now see the rest of my previous reply.
