Windows Updates

I have had a Toshiba Laptop now for a year. I have NEVER been able to get ANY Windows Updates. Yes, I bought it new. It says I have no Admin privelges. I am the ONLY user, and always have been. I have been on the phone to MS for HOURS and they dont seem to be able to help me

Dear poster,

Even though you are the only user on your laptop, the problem is that your
account is not an Administrator-level account. It is not a member of the
Local Administrators group. You will not be able to install any updates
until you can get the account into the local Administrators group or else
log in with a different account, such as the default Administrator account
(user name = Administrator). Once you log in with this default
Administrator account, you can add your normal account to the
Administrator's group.

POSSIBLE STEPS:

Windows XP Pro:
1. At the log-in screen, press Ctrl/Alt/Del twice quickly
2. For user type "Administrator"

Windows XP Home:
1. Reboot, tapping F8 each second.
2. Select Safe Mode at the menu.
3. Select Administrator,

Password:
1. Leave password blank.
2. Try obvious passwords such "password" a Maiden name, child's name or pet
name.
3. If your Toshiba came with Windows Xp pre-installed, perhaps Toshiba
support can give you the Admin password used for the pre-installed OS.
