Windows Update

Recently (within the last 2-3 days) something has happened that prevents me
accessing WU. I get the following message when I click on WU, obviously
something has happened to my PC that makes WU think I've got a Mac.

I cannot think of any specific thing I've done to cause this. I installed
Windows Live about 2 weeks ago. Also I note that I've got Sun Java Console
appearing in Tools in IE7 menu -That's new & maybe it's got something to do
with it?

Can someone suggest an answer to this prob. please?

Thanks for this info.
I deleted the two Post Platform registry keys as per the main suggestion in
the help websites you have indicated. That fixed Windows Updates - however
it now takes a long time to for the updates to be shown.
I also have other problems with my IE7 when I go to websites in which I need
to use passwords. All this seemed to happen at the same time as the WU
prob.
It seems to me that IE7 must be corrupted. I did see one suggestion was to
uninstall Silverlight - this was only installed recently - could this lead
to some of the probs. I'm having?

See if this is related : Error message after you install a Windows Internet Explorer 7
update from Windows Update or from Microsoft Update: "Webpage cannot be displayed"
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/942818
This problem may occur because the file signatures for the core Windows Internet Explorer
7 files may be changed when the update is installed. If a third-party security program is
installed on the computer, that program may then block the updated version of Windows
Internet Explorer 7 from accessing the Internet.

If not, then for IE7 assistance, please post to :microsoft.public.internetexplorer.general
newsgroup.

Did you get to uninstall silverlight. I can't load Java after this MS update
and would see whether uninstalling silverlight would help to resolve problem.

Sorry to take so long to respond I have been away.
Silverlight removal didn't fix it. I finally fixed this problem by resetting
IE7 (Internet Options/ Advanced Tab/ Reset Button) that meant it deleted
some of my other settings but that was inconsequential compared to fixing
the main problem.
