Windows Update wants to install whats already been installed

Tony

I'm using XP professional. When I use the Windows Update
website, it lists 31 critical updates and service packs,
including Service Pack 1 (express), most of these things
I have already installed. I can go into the installation
history it says they were successfully installed. There
are some new updates I need, but it's a huge pain to try
to figure out what has been installed and what hasn't
been. Can anyone help?

Tony,

Windows Update depends on registry entries to determine which updates have
and have not been applied. If WU determines that you need an update that
has already been installed, it likely means these registry entries have
been damaged.

I would go ahead and re-install the updates. (Start with SP1, as that
likely contains many of the 30 other updates.) The re-installation should
correct the damaged registry entries.
