When I try to install WUAU.msi it responds with a
mesage "Microsoft Windows Update Auto Update requires
Windows 2000 SP2 or Windows XP". I am running Windows XP
SP1. The event log shows an error 0x8007054b. Can any one
help me with this situation?

You already have the correct and latest client installed if you have SP1.
If you had XP without SP1, it would install successfully.
