Windows update problem

I am having trouble with windows update. IE freezes only when you try to go
to Windows update. It will open the site in safe mode but comes up with an
error (0x8007043c) when scanning for available updates. I've run 2 each
virus and spyware checkers and removed all found nasty's. Has anybody had a
similar experience or know how I might fix this. Thank You, Dave

Right click My Computer>Properties>Automatic Update tab >Select
"Automatic Recommended" Click OK and follow prompts.
