Windows Update now working in Vista

W

water3d

I'm running an OEM install of Vista Business on a laptop (2xcore duos,
2GB ram, 80GB hdd). Windows update worked fine for a couple of months
and then stopped. There are not error messages or anything. When I
attempt to download and install available updates, all that happens is
that the normal status window comes up and says downloading updates.
However the progress bar sits at 0% "forever" - I've let it run for
almost an entire day straight with no progress.

My copy of windows is activated and my internet connection works fine
for everything else. This has been an ongoing issue for me for about
3 weeks now.

Any help is much appreciated.

Hello (e-mail address removed),

Stop Windows update service, rename SoftwareDistribution folder to whatever
and start Windows update service. Then try again. If it is ready delete the
renamed folder, even if it does not help. The folder will be recreated autmatically
and stores a lot of infos from the update phase, sometimes it breaks.

Best regards

I find it very interesting that what usually breaks Windows Update is
Windows Updates.................
