Windows Update changed network card name

Osmosiss

Ok I am running a wireless network, my main computer
downstairs is hardwired into the internet and this
computer I am on right now is using a D-Link DWL-520+
which is a wireless network adapter that I use to connect
to the internet and to my network through internet
connection sharing or whatever. Well, anyways, I did a
windows update one day a few monthes ago and I downloaded
everything that I was seeing needed to be updated by
windows update and I saw something for wireless network
adapter update so i clicked the "add" button to download
that as well and after all the updates installed
successfully Windows Update changed my Wireless Adapter
card from D-Link DWL-520+ to T1 ACX100 WLAN Adapter.
Since then I have also been having problems such as system
lockups when running programs and other things, I also
play a game called Dark Age of Camelot which is an online
rpg game and I used to be able to play it without any
problems until this update was installed and changed my
adapter card. What do I do?

Hi Osmosiss -

Windows should have saved your original driver when you updated.

Go into Device Manager (Control Panel | System | Hardware) and bring up the
properties sheet for your network adaptor. Click on the Driver tab and then
Roll Back Driver.

In the future it's probably not a good idea to get new device drivers from
Windows Update. Rely on the hardware manufacturers website instead.

I have the D-Link DWL-G520 and the hotfix didn't change my wan card. If you
haven't deleted the hotfix rollback, you can uninstall it to see if that
solves your problem. It is listed as KB826942. This hotfix also added WPA
protocol to the properties (General tab) for my card. If it doesn't solve
your problem, I would uninstall all wan devices and start over. BTW -- you
should have the "use windows to configure wireless..." unchecked on the
Wireless Networks tab for the card's properties. Let AirPlus do the
configuration.
