Windows Update and critical update files

I have a Dell 2400 with XP Home SP1 preinstalled. A couple of times
this month, I have had to format my computer's hard drive. Immediately
after doing so, I go to Windows Update and download critical updates and
patches. When WU version 4 was available, there were always 22-23MB of
critical files to download. But now that version 5 of WU has been released,
there is only about 10MB of critical updates available. What happened to
the rest of the files?

the missing updates have probably been integrated into
sp2 and are no longer available as stand-alone
updates........just a guess

I see my mistake now. The 22MB of critical files are still there,
just a little bit more difficult to find with Windows Update version 5. I
finally got them installed tonight, and now Outlook Express functions
normally.

I am having a similar problem:
I am running Windows XP Home, SP1, on my home PC
and have been trying to catch up on the Critical Patches that my PC
needs prior to loading the SP2 patch on my PC.

On 8/23/2004, I went to the
Windows Update website to load another Critical Patch that I needed.
(Prior to 8/23, there were 24 Critical Patches that I needed). I
wasn't able to access the Windows Update screen until I downloaded the
latest V5 Windows Update. I downloaded/installed V5 with no problems.
To prevent SP2 and other patches from automatically downloading, I
turned Automatic Updates off completely. When I went to the New
Windows Update V5, instead of seeing the approximately 24 Critical
Patches that I still needed, I only found 4 High Priority Patches and
4 XP Patches that I need.

I am quite sure that I only downloaded the V5 update from Windows
Update, because the download/install time was short. Also, when I
check my Installed History, it showed exactly the patches that I
expected. Am I somehow missing these other 20 Critical patches, or
are they lurking out there somewhere else under the V5 Windows Update?

Thanks

There is: at windows update, choose the second option on
the screen. You should see the other 20 updates.

In 2 Timothy 3:1-7, there is a list of the qualities that
Unregenerate man will have in the last days. Is your quality
found there? If So, don't despair - Christ came to save His
people.

If you mean the "Express" and the "Custom" installation buttons, I tried them
both, and they both show 4 High Priority and 4 XP Patches. I am wondering if
the missing patches may be included in SP2 and that is why they are not
showing, even though I have not installed SP2 yet.
