Windows Update after repair install

I just performed a repair install on a machine with XP Pro (disk problem had
damaged files) and most everything seems to be running OK. I have found that
when I try to do the windows update I get to the initial screen at
http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/en/default.asp with "checking for the
lastest version of windows update software..." but I don't get to the "scan
for updates" prompt". It just seems to sit there. Any ideas on what I
should do to kick start this? I installed sp1 post repair install from a
file I had named xpsp1_en_x86.exe that was a full sp1 file and don't know if
that has caused any glitches.
