Windows Service Pack 2 CD?

Guest

I am attempting to load the academic version of Visual Studio .NET 2003 from
MSDNAA onto my computer.

My machine is running WindowsXP and has been updated with Service Pack 2.

The installation process says that some prerequisites must first be loaded.
Upon doing that process everything went fine except the attempt to load IIS
(Internet Information Service).

After several attempts to solve the problem, things have boiled down to the
following:

When attempting to use the "Install optional Windows components" from the
Microsoft Windows Professional CD to install Internet Information Services
(IIS) with the "FrontPage 2000 Server Extensions" selected, the following
message appears:

"Please insert the Compact Disc labeled Windows XP Professional Service Pack
2 CD"

It appears that the installation of Service Pack 2 has broken the ability to
load IIS from the Windows XP Profesional CD that I have.

No one at the University has such a Service Pack 2 CD. We had Service Pack
2 pushed over the network to our machines. There is a file named
WindowsXP-KB835935-SP2-ENU.exe that can be used to install Service Pack2, but
no one knows how to make the presence of that file help respond to the prompt
for the Service Pack 2 CD.

How can I proceed with the Visual Studio .NET installation?

Hi

You need to use a slipstreamed SP2 CD to install IIS.

Hi

If you loaded SP2 via the file you mentioned, it should have created a
"ServicePackFiles" directory within the Windows folder. When prompted for
the WinXP SP2 CD, direct the prompt to the ServicePackFiles directory. If
you don't have the ability to redirect, then you need to edit the registry
or install TweakUI to change the "Windows Installation" files
folder/directory to ServicePackFiles and try again. If you have removed the
"ServicePackFiles" directory in an effort to save space, then you'll need to
create a slipstreamed version of WinXP SP2 Pro and burn it to CD or be able
to redirect the IIS installation there. Note, you can add IIS and the
FrontPage extensions through the Add/Remove Software Control Panel
component, without having to run the VS.dot.net PreReq's

Hi,

Try changing the servicepacksourcepath value in the registry under:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Setup

to point to the local installation of the service pack files, usually
something like:

%windir%\servicepackfiles\I386
