The Windows Security Center does not seem to recognize my anit-virus, which
is up to date and is turned on. Should I be concerned or just monitor this
myself and not worry about it?

It is up to the anti virus manufacturer to make the necessary changes so
their product is recognized by the Security Center.
Contact them and ask them about the Windows XP Security Center.
Only then will you know the extent of your problem.
