Windows Search 4 for XP: total crap

I had to uninstall this software after less than a day mainly for two reasons:

1. It wouldn't actually snooze. Watching it via process explorer it was
taking 1-3% CPU and doing lots of disk reads/writes. Not acceptable.
2. It couldn't deal with the size of my mailbox (30k items or so). But why
else would I need search? Lots of mails didn't show up in returns, even
though it said it was done indexing.
3. The quick view from the search box was not ranked based on star ratings,
you had to open up the full window and then sort the results. That's just
plain stupid.
4. There is no way to give feedback! There is no feedback button on the
product page. Chances are this message will never reach the right people.

You guys at MS should really think hard about pulling yourselves together,
and a good start would be to give people real ways to send feedback.

Very well spoken, but no one here works for Microsoft, MORON!

You are correct in that, Microsoft won't read this, in fact XP is on the way
out, so dont expect any improvements at this late date. Try UGH (VISTA) or W7
for a newer Operating system.
This are is not visited by microsoft, it's just other users helping other
users.

Try copernic

Free version works fine for me.
If you have external drives with back up on, I would not recommend having
many back up copies on any permanently attached external drive, as their
indexing doesn't seem to be preventable on the free version at least, and it
can take a long time.

No, it's not, I"m pretty sure. You do realize that figure is
typical for an idle system, right? That's a negligible amount
of cpu occupation.
2. It couldn't deal with the size of my mailbox (30k items
or so). But why else would I need search? Lots of mails

You have 30 THOUSAND mails in your mailbox? Woof! Before you
do anything else you need to pare that down to a reasonable
size! No wonder you need SEARCH! Categorize and arrange
should be your first priority here, IMO!
I think I'm done here; that's not worth even trying to
repair until things be straightened out.
3. The quick view from the search box was not ranked based

And you have actually rated 30 THOUSAND "items"?. Wow.

Of course there is a way to give feedback. You need to
actually read what's offered to you sometimes though.

There are no "guys at MS" here; just users. Like I said, you
have to read sometimes.
