Windows screen conflicts with monitor screen

I have the type of problem where one minute everything was ok and then for
no
reason something went wrong. I've had no luck in tracking down the problem
with
msconfig, regedit or a number of other programs. I hope you understand what
I'm
trying to explain. A picture of the screen would show you clearly but I
can't
send it through this mail. I sample picture is on my web:
http://aclassictouch.biz/ScreenProblem.htm.

What I see on my screen is as follows:

The color and background picture is the full screen but all active icons I
have
set up have shifted down 1 inch and the top 1 inch is inactive, even though
the
background is still in it. The screen is correct during boot but just
before it
completes everything is shifted down 1 inch. This indicates Windows has made
a
change but I can't track down the change. To make it worse, the Office
buttons
on the upper right corner, within this 1 inch dead area, is still active.
Plus,
pop-ups can still use this top 1 inch.

It's almost like I have been infected with something that was blocked by
PestPatrol or Spybot but they didn't fix the window size.

Then to make it more complicated, IE (or anything like word, explorer, etc.)
all
cannot use this top 1 inch even when they have been 'maximized'. But then if
I
use the 'full screen' button it fills the whole screen and monitor. In
other
words, the 'maximize' and 'full screen' are 2 different things. This also
shows
there is nothing wrong with the monitor itself.

Then the final straw is occasionally it shifts everything up and the 1 inch
is
dead on the bottom of the screen.

I would appreciate any suggestions in tracking down this problem.

P.S.; If I log in to another user name on this computer the screen is
correct.
There must be a specific parameter that re-defined the screen for this one
user.
That's what I can't find.

Try shutting down all programs on your system. My guess is that you have a
program that has docked itself to the top of your screen. (Also run a
spyware detector.)

Thanks but I've already done everything you suggested.

What I have learned now is it agrees exactly with the Microsoft Knowledge
Base Article - 302803 "Remote Desktop Connection Client Does Not Start
Properly" for Microsoft Windows XP Professional at
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;302803&Product=winxp.

SYMPTOMS

When you start the Remote Desktop Connection client, you may find that the
window size is the same as the remote desktop size, not full screen as
expected; however, the Maximize button indicates the window is in the
maximized state. If you click the Maximize button, the window does not enter
full-screen mode as expected; instead, the window is restored to a size
slightly smaller than the remote desktop size.

It appears as though my XP Home thinks it is XP Professional and is causing
this problem. I don't know what started it or how to correct it.

You can see an actual picture that shows you what this paragraph is saying
at:

Does anyone have any idea in what could be causing this or how to track it
down? I've used msconfig to temporary block all loading but one time it
fixed it, another time it didn't. I've spent hours in regedit but couldn't
track the problem. I also have used quite a few TweakUI programs but nothing
in these either.

I can even create a new user supposedly identical to the
current one with the problem and the new screen is correct.

Thanks for any help.
