Windows scoring index?

Ok, I don't know exactly what this is for except to take up more unnecessary
space on my computer, but none the less, it is there. Someone thought it
might be useful. I guess there were too many people that don't know how to
read the configuration of their computer to tell if a program will run on it
before they buy it. Kinda like a person driving a car and never checking
the fluids. Anyway, I saw this "number" when I had gone to the properties
of "My Computer" to get my serial number, and it was a 3.0. (After reading
the scoring system, that isn't all that great) but after having trouble with
my screen going blank severa times and giving me a "display driver stopped
responding mllddmk..." message HP had me go to:
Programs
Recovery Manager
Advanced
Hardware/Drivers installation (highlight this)
Click Next
Choose nVidia GEForce server drivers
Next
Next
Let it re-install drivers and re-start driver.

Now, the "score" for my computer is 2.4. Any reason why? it changed
after I did the re-install and said I had changed the hardware. It is the
same hardware that came in the computer off the shelf of the store. I
haven't changed any of the hardware.

That is the score for my gaming graphics. I uninstalled all the games
except for solitaire and the Mahjong thing. I just don't play games much.

The processor score is 4.6
memory score is 4.5
graphics score is 3.1
gaming graphics score is 2.4
primary hard disk is 4.5

So is this something I should be concerned about?

Just checking.

Aside from that being a rather poor score? No. Don't expect your machine
to do great things while gaming.

What model and spec is your video card?

Nvidia GeForce Go 6150
Frank already told me it was not exactly something to write home about.

I agree. That score seems inline with what other are posting. Also note
that MS will continually update the scoring methods. Meaning it's possible
to have scored X a month ago yet are only scoring Z today.

It's possible that between tests an update occurred to change your score
which you did not notice until you ran the test again.

Drivers also play a factor in scoring. Possibly the quality of the drivers
can bring out the speed of that card. Back when we had crappy 8800 drivers
I would score a 1.0. Now with proper drivers I score a 5.9

I just got off the phone with HP, and since this problem has been occurring
since day 1 and getting increasingly worse, they have now decided I have a
bad video card. So, now they want me to send it back and it will take 2-3
weeks to get it fixed. Phooy! I can't go without my laptop for 2-3 weeks.
I teach classes every week and have 3 seminars next weekend. Not an option.
The store I bought it from said to insisit they give me an RA # and I can
bring it back to the store and get it replaced immediately. It is 32 days
old....technically. At least it has been out of the store for 32 days. :)
