Windows-Registry Recovery Error Window

C

Chris B.

I am running Windows XP Pro on a new custom PC.

When I start from off, my desktop displays okay, but, I have a medium-sized
error window over the desktop:
"Windows -Registry Recovery
One of the files containing System's Registry data
had to be recovered by use of a log or alternate copy. The
recovery was successful.

OK"
Then I click on "OK" the error windows goes away and
everything is fine.

Then I go to Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Event Viewer, Application,
Application Error Log:

TYPE DATE TIME (a
range) SOURCE CATEGORY

Security Center None

" "
6:29:21AM Security Center "

" AvgEms "

" LightScribe Service "
" "
" Avg7UpdSvc "

" Userenv "

I removed AVG antivirus and closed and started. There were no Avg notes,
but, I still had the "Windows-Registry Recovery" error window. I have since
reinstalled AVG Antivirus. Then I went to Add/remove to try to remove
LightScribe, but, there is nothing there. LightScribe files (including
LSLauncher.exe) are still in C: \Windows\Program Files\LightScribe, however.
I have Googled this problem and have found many postings.

Any ideas? Thanks Very
Much.

my guess is that
1) these automatic "update services", "registering services",
"check for update" services should not be allowed to
run. Instead they should be done manually and within
your control and not by their parent programs

2) the registry seems to be automatically
repaired by the o.s. when it ascertains a spare
copy that is kept in a safe place.

3) i don't think the lightscribe device posses
a problem otherwise you would have a hardware
issue instead of a registry issue.

what I would simply suggest and do is to

a) do a repair install with the win cd
b) use a freeware from microsoft called
pagedefrag
c) scan your o.s. with additional software
like spybot and microsofts' onecare

i think you would only need to do the
above just once, only to make a clean
sweep of the system.

afterwards use any programs you like
but always disable any kind of automated
processes and run them manually instead.

Recurring instances of registry corruption are very often caused by
defective RAM. Download one of the following free memory testing
utilities and run it for an extended period (e.g. overnight) to check
out the RAM in your computer:
DocMemory http://www.simmtester.com
Windows Memory Diagnostic http://oca.microsoft.com/en/windiag.asp

Good luck

How to Troubleshoot Registry Corruption Issues

I recommend you regularly save copy of the registry using ERUNT. When set
up properly, if it comes to the point where because of registry corruption
the system won't boot, you can restore a previous copy of the registry from
the recovery console and it might get you running again for the short term,
but unless you fix the underlying problem this is not otherwise a fix for
it.

Lastly make sure you have a full and complete backup of important data.
That should be a given at all times.
