Windows Reboots Prematurally

All—

I have run into a problem of late that has baffled me; Windows XP reboots
itself with warning. I checked the event log “system†section and notice the
following message appears before every reboot: “The device,
\Device\Harddisk2\D, is not ready for access yet.†I have two Seagate
ATA-100 HHD’s (120GB and 80GB), both fairly new, and three DVD/CD-RW drives.
This problem developed around the time I install Service Pack 2, and it not
consistent. Also noted that at least 11 events appear in the event log right
after I go into Computer Manager can access the Disk Manager.

I have replaced the drive cable and changed out hard drives, all to no
avail. And I cannot seem to find any Knowledgebase article that directly
addresses this problem. Any and all help is appreciated.

I've had this problem as well. I'd shut down the computer and it would
reboot itself. I solved it (at least I think I have) by going into my
device manager and accessing the networking adapter and choosing the
advanced tab. The last option in the property box says WakeOnLAN From
PowerOff. I set this to disable and the problem vanished. Try it and
tell me if it works. My problem also happened after SP2 install and
I'm assuming that SP2 reset this to enable. What I think is happening
is that when I shut down the Modem for some reason wants to connect,
the PC restarts. This is only a guess and I'm sure that someone on
this group will have a better answer.
