Windows quit recognizing CDR and DVDROM drive

my computer no longer reads my d: drive (cdrw)or my E:
drive (dvdrom) ...in the device manager's troubleshooter
it says the registry may be corrupt(error 19)

How do i fix this.

Your problem usually happens on a machine that already had
a working CDRW with Adaptec and/or Roxio, and then someone
adds another CD or DVD device.
