Windows Product Activation

Hi,

I bought a computer second-hand from a nice young man. He set it up
for me and it has worked absolutely perfectly for three years, there
have been no problems, hardware or software, that I haven't been able
to fix myself.

I started it this morning to be greeted with the message:
'Windows Product Activation. Your Windows product must be activated
within 7 days. Do you want to activate Windows now?'
I clicked NO since I wanted to check.

What I have is Windows XP and I have already found a link that seems
to diagnose the problem, on the Microsoft site....
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/312295/en-us
So I have downloaded a thingy.exe called Guided Help, it sounds like
it is going to fix the problem, but I haven't run it yet because it is
a bit vague about exactly what the procedure entails; I mean if I run
this Guided Help thingy, is it going to demand the original Windows
disk at the end? Because, if it does, I have a serious problem.

I feel a bit stupid now, having thrown away all the manuals, spare
wires, disks and cardboard boxes that came with the computer, but I
was just trying to make the place look tidy!

Any help from you guys would be very much appreciated.

Thanks,
Julie

Bakcup your Data first then perform the the registry part and the info on
the link below if it apply to you!
Just try the Registry Part and see if that will help.

Microsoft requires users to activate their installations of Windows. You
have thirty days from the date of installation. As long as Windows is
installed correctly and your license is valid, all you need to do is
answer "yes" and activate.
What I have is Windows XP and I have already found a link that seems
to diagnose the problem, on the Microsoft site....

No offense, but that was EXTREMELY stupid. Do you mean to say that you
threw away the installation disk and perhaps the product key for
Windows? If so, how do you plan on repairing or reinstalling Windows if
it becomes necessary to do so?
