I have a HP Pavilion 762C with WinXP SP2 fully patched that I've upgraded the
CPU on. It needs a BIOS upgrade to allow hyperthreading to work and handle
other issues. I got an ESUPPORT upgrade and flashed the bios, all went well.
Rebooted, much more responsive, but when I logged in the Windows Product
Activation Wizard appeared for the first time and would not let me use XP.
The product key displayed is the correct one, but XP sees it as invalid. HP
charged me $50 to tell me I should reinstall XP from scratch. I backed out
the upgrade, I'm back where I was when I started. I need the upgrade - how
do I fix the problem?
