Windows Product Activation' keeps looping

I had a customer with a illegal XP installation coming in this week. She had
some virus problems, not so bad.
When she was in I said that she had to buy a legal XP because of the
updates… OK no problem.

I used the http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/selfhelp/PKUInstructions.aspx
link to transform the illegal xp to a legal xp.
I’ve used it a lot.. no problems. … the activation fine.. But after
restarting, the pc ask to activate??
When doing so it says already activated and I automatically log off … I know
that I have to remove the 2 files wpa.dbl and wpa.bak and reactivate… but it
keeps coming back to the loop.
I have tried it with another new XP pro key but doesn’t help.

Repair the XP installation is a option.
But when I boot from the XP cd and I take the repair option I go to the
repair console in DOS.
Is that because there is no SP2 on the pc ?

My question is, can I do something from out the repair console in dos?
Is there another way to fix my problem… yea I know format c: but I want to
hold this option to the end..
There is a accounting program on the pc and that’s not so easy to recover…

If you know something I can do, Ill be great full

Most of the illegal XP versions out there are based on the Volume
License Key (VLK)version. You can not change to a different version
key with out doing a repair install since you also need to change
several "key" files to change version.

Retail key usually work with Retail CDs
OEM will work with OEM CDs
VLK will work with the VLK CD.

Thx, but that will not be the problem
I’ve done it before, the illegal versions will most likely be a VLK version.
When I uses the url to make it a legal version I’ve used a OEM key.. that
works.
Done it several time before.

If this is the same as a while ago, part of Microsoft's intention is
to allow those with pirated Volume License to get legal without
reinstalling.
Effectively Volume License is changed to retail.

Microsoft made a way around, but otherwise you are correct.

Can I do something about my problem?
Can I do something in de dos repair console, because that is the only way to
logon on that pc.

Thx
