Windows Product Activation Error 0x80090006

Greg Lazarchik

Periodically when I startup my computer windows fails to
load giving the subject error notice and the comment that
windows is having difficulty authenticating the computer
software ( i think,.. or it may have said conputer instead
of software).

Once I got it to restart by going to safe mode and then
system restore to an earlier date, then a couple of days
later it happened again. Then I got it to start by putting
my original XP disk in a drive and booting up, I went into
the setup hoping I could find an option to repair but it
didn't come up so I stopped short of a full install.

I run XP home w SP2 and would appreciate any help on how to
get rid of this now especially at tax time I need my
machine and this makes me nervous.

Possible Resolution:

Go to Start > Run and type: regsvr32 regwizc.dll , and hit enter.
Then go again to Start > Run and type: regsvr32 licdll.dll , and hit enter again.

Apparently, and I can't say how, the above files became unregistered.
