Windows Photo Gallery - weird behavior

I'm not exactly sure what caused this to start happening, but whenever I
click on an image file (e.g. jpeg, png, bmp) that is on the desktop, nothing
happens. gif files are OK since they come up in IE. If the image file
happens to be in a subfolder on the desktop or in any other folder, the file
displays fine in Windows Photo Gallery. Has anyone seen this behavior
before?

Hi Fred,

What happens if you right-click on a jpg/png/bmp file and choose "Preview"?

Similar problem happened in Windows XP where previewing image files (using the default Windows Picture and Fax Viewer) may cause a huge delay if there is a network shortcut present in the desktop. Do you have any such shortcuts on the Desktop?
