Windows PE as an emergency boot disk

Emanuil ACHIM

Hi all,

If the computer crashes, I can use Windows PE (Windows XP Embedded CD-ROM
Disc 1) as an emergency boot disk and fix the problem. That's legal (this
scenarios is also described in MSDN). We deliver computers in the whole
world and if it crashes somewhere, it's not a good ideea to send the Disc to
fix the problem and to get the computer to fix the problem ..... ;-)) .
But, is it legal to make copies from the Windows XP Embedded CD-ROM Disc 1
and deliver it with the computer ? And if not, what can we do to solve this
problem ? Or ... whats the best procedure / practice for this ? We evaluate
the XPE and now we must find a (coast free) solution for this problem ...

For each answer thanks in advance.

Best regards,
Emanuil

Hi,

Cost free solutions:
1. Create small boot program in ASM that would do RAW read starting from certain fixed location of CD and raw write starting from
beginning of HDD. Use int 13 for read and write.
2. Use El-torito XPe to boot XPe from CD and create some install/deployment wizards.

Best regards,
Slobodan
