windows nt backup versus 2000 backup

robert

I can't use that piece of junk 2000 backup any longer!!!!!!!!!

Has anyone tried to copy the old ntbackup executable from windows nt
and use it in windows 2000?

Seems to me that if I could somehow force the old ntbackup.exe to use dll
files from a certain directory it would work

I guess I could change the system path ??
but that would be a global change effecting all other executables

any ideas would be appreciated

In most cases, it is extremely unlikely that a Win2k version of an exe file
will work with NT 4.0 counterparts. In this case, trying to use the NT 4.0
backup program with Win2k .dll files, I would have to say that it is totally
impossible. I have not actually tried it, but I have used both backup
programs and their differences make them worlds apart. You would have much
better luck seeking a freeware or shareware solution from download.com or
some other such source.

Depending on your needs, you might be able to write a simple DOS script to
also accomplish the backup if you are backing up to hard drive or
DVD.........something along the lines of:

xcopy source:\folder target:\folder /s /f /d/ /c

The parameters tell the xcopy to copy all subdirectories and to copy only
files on the source drive that are newer or have been modified since last
copied onto the target drive.

Good luck

What problems are you having? I think the W2k version is a lot nicer and use
it all over the place.
