Windows - No Disk (There is no disk in the drive...) HELP. please!

After reading a suggestion to check mfr for updates, I downloaded a
recommended A7V8V-LA Motherboard Bios Update from HP for my Compaq Presario
SR1124NX with Windows XP. After installing and rebooting, I get a message
with a red circled X entitled Windows - No Disk. It then says that there is
no disk in the drive. Please insert a disk into drive.

Help, please. What do I do? Obviously I don't know alot about computers so
please dumb it down for me. I guess that will teach me to make changes
without knowing what I am doing.

Thanks for any help anyone can give me.

Is the HDD being detected by the BIOS?

Enter the BIOS setup and make sure that auto detect hDD is set to on.

Thank you for responding. The message mysteriously disappeared yesterday. I
will still check your suggestion.

Thanks!

Something is try to load at startup from a cd or floppy drive.
Run msconfig.exe, and review the contents of the Startup tab,
to see what is trying to load and from where.

As GreenieLeBrun said you may need to get into the BIOS setup.

You do this right after you power on the computer. On a Compaq system
you wait just a few seconds until a flashing white cursor appears in
the top right corner of the screen. As soon as that appears you
immediately press the F10 key and then the BIOS setup screen will
open.

There will be several menus in the BIOS setup for different aspects,
one of which will be labelled Basic (or similar). That should show
you the information about the disk drives. The hard drive will be
listed as the "primary master" drive and if that shows as "none" or as
"not installed" then that is the cause of your problems. You may be
able to change this setting to "Auto" or there may be another function
on one of the menus to "autodetect hard drives".

Hope this is of some assistance.

Good luck

Ron,

Thank you so much for your clear and concise instructions. I will try them
as the window did come back again. But it doesn't show up each time I
startup.

Since you were so helpful, would you have any idea on how I can get my print
jobs to run faster in one program only (print shop 21) Ever since I
installed it, it takes forever for even the simplest projects in normal print
quality to run. I had an earlier version of the same program before this
with no problems printing. I have a HP Photosmart 8450 printer. Any ideas?

Thanks.

Sorry, can't do anything about this item except to suggest that you
ensure that you have the latest printer driver from the HP website.
Other than that you would have to check with the authors of the
program, which I believe is Broderbund.

Good luck
