Windows Movie Maker causes error upon loading

Until a few days ago, I have been using WMM a lot, with good results. Now
when I load it, I immediately get a message that reads something like,
"Encountered a problem and needs to close." It happens every time, so I can
no longer access old projects or create new ones. I tried to download a new
copy of WMM from the Internet, but that didn't work. I even tried restoring
the WMM folder from a system backup of a couple of weeks ago, and that didn't
help either. Anyone have a suggestion? Thanks!!

Graham -- thanks for the reply. I am running MM 2.1 and XP SP2. I already
tried all of Dean Rowe's suggestions, with no luck. I'm wondering if MM is
trying to load a previous project each time I start it, and somehow that
project is contaminated and won't let MM run? That's what it seems like,
anyway. I tried renaming some projects, but that didn't help.

I also bought an anti-virus, anti-spyware program and cleaned up my disk,
but that didn't do it either.

A couple more things . . .

When I try to remove MM prior to re-installing it, I can't do it! The
program does not appear in the Control Panel's "Add or Remove Programs" list.
Then when I try to erase any of the MM files in their original folder, after
a few seconds they reappear!!

I also tried clicking on project names to load MM that way, but I get the
same results: an error message and an opportunity to report the problem to
Microsoft. Then the program terminates.

Hi,

I appear to be having the same issue. I've not tried re-installing MM
yet, but am looking for the cause of the problem.
