Windows - Microsoft Update XP SP3

Ray

I have a brand new Dell Optiplex 740 with XP SP2 installed. I booted the
computer and installed SP3. Now when i go to Windows or Microsoft update, it
wants to install Windows Genuine Advantage Validation Tool and Package
installer to significantly smaller download size. I try to download and
install they both fail without any error messages in the browser or event
log. I installed IE 7.0 then i ran my script to re-register IE DLLs, with no
luck.

Any suggestions?

Hi Ray, see if Method 1 fixes the problem if not try Method 2 in this article
- ignore the title -
Updates are not installed successfully from Windows Update, from Microsoft
Update, or by using Automatic Updates after you repair a Windows XP
installation
