Windows Messenger

Good morning!

I have an annoyance with Windows XP that I would like to solve. I have set
Windows Messenger to never run in the background or load automatically at
start-up, and it does not. When I open Outlook Express, however, Windows
Messenger still starts, even though I do not have a Microsoft .NET passport.
How can I stop Messenger from loading? I only have 96 MB of memory, and this
creates a lot of stress for my system.

Best regards,

Tools/Options/General tab/untick "Automatically log on the Windows
Messenger". Also, if you have the Contacts pane on the left hand side,
get rid of it by clicking on the "X" in the upper right hand corner of
the contacts pane.

You really need to get more RAM.

Click Start, Run and enter REGEDIT go to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Microsoft/OutlookExpress

Right click in a blank area of the right pane and select New, add a DWORD value named HideMessenger. Double click the value you just created and set it to 2.
