Windows Messenger - Video conversation problem

B

Bill W

Can someone please point me in the right direction? My daughter can invite
me to a video conversation and when I accept, everything runs well and I can
see her - she cannot see me. When I invite her, I can see her, but she
cannot see me. My computer says it's sending the image and seems to be
happy. Is there anything at her computer or ISP that we should check? A
check list of things to look for would be most helpful. Thank you.

1. How are each of you connecting to the Internet?
2. Do either of you have a Router? If so do you know how to configure to
allow Messenger?
3. Are either of you using DSL, perhaps with a NAT modem supplied by the DSL
provider.
4. Do either of you have a Firewall, if so which one, and do you know how to
configure to allow usage of the Messenger service?
The above items are the first thing to assess.

Video should go both ways if you select "Start a Video Conference" but will
only go one way if you select "Send My Webcam." If you are using the "Send
My Webcam" option, the person on the receiving end must also select "Send My
Webcam" after accepting in order to send their video. If you are both
behind routers, then they should have UPnP turned on since ports need to be
opened. If you are behind the same router (i.e. in the same home) then it
may not work. Have you both updated the fimware in the routers to the
latest version?
