Windows Messenger not going to My E-mail Inbox automatically

Hello,

I hope Jonathan or someone can help me! Since last night, I have been
having a problem with my Windows Messenger version 4.7.2009. Usually when I
access the E-mail Inbox through the little green man or the Windows
Messenger box (e-mail messages), it takes me straight to my Inbox. Now, it
stops at the .NET Passport Sign-In page and I must manually type in my
password. How can I fix this?

I have changed my password and it didn't fix the problem. I changed my
password back to the original one, and it's still not working. I have both
my email address and the Passport in my User Accounts stored usernames and
passwords (Manage My Network Passwords).

Please help! Thanks.

Greetings,

It may be that someone simply turned on the option which automatically makes this happen. To
turn it off, open up the main Windows Messenger window, click the Tools menu, then Options,
then Privacy tab, uncheck 'Always ask me for my password when opening .NET Passport-enabled
Web pages'.

Jonathan,

It didn't work! :( I cleared all cookies. I use CookieWall, so I took out
all the cookies having to do with Hotmail, MSN and Passport. It accepted
four new cookies, but I still can't get in to my inbox via the Windows
Messenger icon or box. It still goes to the .NET Passport Sign-In page
either way. What now?

Help! Thanks.

Hi caliroze,

No that shouldn't have anything to do with it -- this functionality still does work.

I'm not really familiar with CookieWall, but you might try removing every single cookie you
have and trying again (spotting all the Passport cookies can be somewhat difficult).

Hi Caliroze,

Windows Messenger 5 does not have Hotmail support, the feature was moved to MSN Messenger.

You'll need to go back to Windows Messenger 4.x to get this feature back (or use MSN
Messenger).

To downgrade back to Windows Messenger 4.7, click Start, then Run, type (or copy/paste) the
following:
msiexec.exe /x {ABEB838C-A1A7-4C5D-B7E1-8B4314B10138}
and then click OK.

Then, you can reinstall Windows Messenger 4.7 from here:

or if you prefer to install MSN Messenger 6 (which will *not* upgrade Windows Messenger), you
can find it here:

Hi Jonathan,

Ha ha, I guess that's why it wouldn't go to my Hotmail. I have uninstalled
it per your instructions, and have just decided to leave it off my machine
for now. I don't use messenger anyway. I only used it for the email
notification and now it won't just go into my E-mail Inbox. I can access my
Hotmail account from the Start Menu or the MSN Web page.

Is it OK to just have uninstalled the Windows Messenger and leave it off?
Thanks!
