Windows Media Problem

I was wondering if anyone knew what could be causing my computer to "freeze"
up. It usually only happens when I am playing Windows Media Player, either
by itself or in conjunction with other programs. I have tried to update
Media Player and it is using v. 10 and all the most recent updates have been
installed. Once the computer freezes (audio & video) it eventually
"unfreezes" after about 5 seconds or so. Any suggestions?

Sorry for the latent response, my wife and I just moved into a new house. I
am just now getting things straightened out in the office.

I have 512 MB. Since I posted this question, I had Office Depot check my
computer out. Evidently, the hardware checked out fine, but there was a
fatal error in the operating system. The technician dumped my XP operating
system and reloaded. The computer worked fine for a couple of weeks;
however, after I loaded up most of the software again, e.g., print drivers,
Cox Security Sweep, External Sony DVD, Adobe Photoshop, etc., the problems
have come back.

I have been talking with my IT folks at work and my Father, and they both
said I may need to upgrade my RAM - what are your thoughts?
